“The concept of ‘Taking on the World’ was set in the context of an outward looking society within which our schools blazed a trail for inclusivity, diversity and international reach”.

EASSE participates in the GSA Annual Conference in Oxford on 21-22 November

Under the motto "TAKE ON THE WORLD", the Girls' School Association presented an attractive programme based on six presentations that undoubtedly provided an opportunity to discover new ideas and share opinions within the members and participants.

“The concept of ‘Taking on the World’ was set in the context of an outward looking society within which our schools blazed a trail for inclusivity, diversity and international reach”.

EASSE First Vice-President Teresa Martínez and Gemma Arasanz, member of the Board of Directors, participated in the conference in which they were able to collect and contrast the impressions of the experts and the initiatives of the leading education professionals around the UK.

Caroline Jordan ,President of the Girl’ School Association, , opened the meeting and welcomed the attendees emphasizing the importance of the global and transcendent formation of the students: “The challenge we now face is to navigate the uncertainty and understand the potential impact on our pupils (…)It is clear to me that girls in single-sex environments benefit hugely from being able to take part in, excel at…(…) Education for girls has certainly changed for the better since her time but there is still much work to do to make sure young women enjoy complete equality of opportunity in education and employment”.

In addition to bringing new insights into the impact of new historical and political circumstances on the educational work of the independent female schools around the Uk, Caroline addressed issues such as mental health, women in leadership, and the importance of modern languages learning and teaching around the​ schools.

The Girls’ Schools Association represents the heads of many of the top performing day and boarding schools in the UK independent schools sector. The GSA encourages high standards of education for girls and promotes the benefits of being taught in a largely girls-only environment. We aim to inform and influence national educational debate and we provide our members and their staff with professional development courses, conferences, advice and opportunities to debate and share best practice.
