¿Por qué la educación diferenciada es la clave del éxito de esta escuela del sur de Londres?

For many, it's the second week of the new school year which means fresh school uniform, brand-new shoes and an exciting year ahead.

And for those with children in their final year of primary, you've probably already started thinking about where to send them to secondary school, even if they still look too young for that all-important next step.

From class sizes, enrichment opportunities and support to finding somewhere your child will fit in, when it comes to choosing a school, there's so much to think about.

And with the latest set of GCSE results recently released, that's another thing to consider.

Chislehurst School for Girls have reason to celebrate with another fantastic set of GCSE results with 72% achieving grade five or above in English and 50% in maths.

Religious Studies also had a strong set of results with students achieving the highest number of top grades. In fact 32 students achieved an 8 or a 9.

But what goes into making a school such a success? We spoke to the school's headteacher, Karen Raven, to find out.

She's a stalwart at the school having been there for an incredible 27 years and she's particularly passionate about working at an all-girls' school. Here she tells us why.

Educating boys and girls separately

Sending your child to a single-sex school is all down to personal preference but what really are the benefits?

Do children perform better without the distraction of the opposite sex? Karen told us how she thinks this is the case.

She said: "I personally believe passionately in all-girls' education...we think that is why they do so well here."

Karen told us how she thinks teaching in this environment offers opportunities that the pupils may not otherwise get had they been taught in a mixed-sex school.
