The lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in recent months has shown us that there are ample possibilities to develop personalized education through digital channels, allowing us to continue with students’ integral education and thus being able to continue helping families in educating their children. In addition, teachers have also had the opportunity to redefine their role in the new digital framework, which has led to the improvement of personal and professional skills, especially those related to tutoring.

Education in today’s society, school management as a brand and the importance of precepting were some of the topics covered in the lectures and workshops.

Pilar Lacorte of the UIC’s Institute of Higher Family Studies opened Friday’s program with her lecture “Solid education in a liquid society,” a presentation on the interweaving of education, family and school in today’s society. Next, the Brand Manager of Institució Familiar d’Educació Miquel Rossy highlighted the role of teachers as ambassadors of the school brand and the importance of school management from the communication and marketing perspective.

On Saturday, the expert in differentiated education, Jaume Camps (UIC) presented different arguments on differentiated education, and then the Director of the TDJ Foundation Dobrochna Lama highlighted the importance of precepting in single-sex schools as a tool for comprehensive and personalized education. The various workshops on teacher mobility (Barbara Schellenberger , Mädchengymnasium Jülich, Germany), Innovation in Childhood Education (Lucía Capapé, Fomento Centros de Enseñanza, Spain) and Promotion of Early Childhood Education Centers (Heidi Burkhart, President Stella International School, Austria) offered the attendees projects and experiences to promote teacher training, classroom innovation and improved promotion.

Finally, the President of EASSE, Joan Curcó, closed the conference with a speech entitled “Educational project and context,” highlighting the importance of family-school collaboration as a pillar of children’s education.

With this plurality of situations, initiatives and projects, EASSE seeks to contribute to promoting differentiated education throughout Europe as a legitimate educational option by promoting gatherings, studies and scientific research that support this option and promote the knowledge and dissemination of this model.

The topics addressed in the presentations and workshops during the Third EASSE Annual Conference were leadership, educational marketing, innovation and learning and talent management in managers and teachers.

Janet Dean, a member of the EASSE Board of Directors and Principal of Rosemont School, Dublin, coordinated the panel of experts, in which educators from ten countries shared projects and initiatives undertaken in each of the educational settings.

In turn, the Director of Communication of Institución Familiar de Educación Alberto Cortés gave a lecture to the more than 70 attendees on communication and marketing in schools, and the Director of Interaxion Group Luis Blázquez outlined some keys to educating young people in the use of digital tools.

This has been a wonderful opportunity to share initiatives and experiences aimed at continuing to work on behalf of differentiated education in Europe.

Educational institutions from Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden and Spain participated.

The topics addressed in the presentations and workshops during the EASSE Annual Conference included leadership and entrepreneurship, talent management in managers and teachers, promotion of educational projects and communication.

Dobrochna Lama, President of the Sternik educational institution in Poland, coordinated the panel of experts, in which educators from eleven European countries shared experiences in educational innovation.

For his part, Juan Manuel Mora, Vice Rector of Communication at the University of Navarra, gave a lecture on the reputation of schools, and Jaume Camps, Professor of Sociology and Social Psychology at the International University of Catalonia (UIC), presented his research on the pedagogical reasons for differentiated education.

Austria, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Hungary participated in the First Annual European EASSE Day, held in Paris on November 28, 2015.

At the beginning of the day, EASSE’s General Director, Ricardo Gay, outlined the association’s activities in the last two years. Highlights included the creation of an international Advisory Council, the development of the website and the promotion of the activity in social networks, the publication of digital newsletters, and the participation in conferences and annual meetings of differentiated education organizations around the world (IBSC, NCGS, GSA, etc…).

Two experts in differentiated education, Jaume Camps and Alfonso Aguiló, presented their latest publications: “Gender Intelligence for School” and “Arguments for Differentiated Education,” respectively.

There was also a round table discussion, presented and moderated by EASSE Vice President Teresa Martinez, in which representatives from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Poland, Spain and France shared educational experiences.

As President, Joan Curcó closed the meeting with a speech on EASSE’s contributions and its future lines of work.
